The Cultural Academy starts February 4, 2014 and ends March 6, 2014. Please see Ellen Bullard for more information on Indian drum and dance, Art/Craft instruction, pottery, Beadwork, Teaching Culture using Computers, PowerPoint Presentations, and American Indian Studies/Digital Storytelling(7th_10th only) All other classes are 3rd -8th grades. All Classes will be at Indian Education address listed above, or right in front of Pizza Hut, turn left at light cross Rail road tracks and first building on the right. Please don't forget Summer Enrichment Camp at Pembroke Elementary school Monday-Thursday, 8:00-3:00pm. Breakfast, lunch, snacks and all trips are free. We will be working on reading, Math, Science, Indian drumming, Indian beadwork, dream catchers, Neck chockers, Indian Art, a variety of educational trips, etc. Please don't forget the 9th-12th graders can sign up for the VISIONS program which is volunteer Indian students improving our nation. We need you to sign your children up as soon as possible. This will look excellent on their resume when looking for a job because your volunteer work is your job experience. The two (2)Major goals of our program are:
1) Improve Reading skills
2)Decrease the Dropout rate
YDS(Youth Development Specialist): monitors attendance of all Indian students
Visits homes when necessary, and sends correspondence to parents including collecting 506 applications so students can be included in our programs.
Provide parent, teacher, and administrative conferences and cultural workshops.
NASA/AISES clubs, summer enrichment programs in June, and tutoring groups in reading.We provide SAT prep classes, prepare and submit project reports. We recruit students for AISES Program, NASA Program, NC Indian Youth UNITY conference, National Indian Youth Unity Conference, and various conferences and camps. We also serve as a strong advocate/positive role model. We also provide individual counseling when necessary. Last but not least, we offer the VISION program which stands for Volunteer Indian students improving our nation. They can volunteer at Indian Education any time after school like the Cultural Academy, Summer camps etc. These students will be able to start in 9th- 12th grades and get hours for their volunteer work to help get scholarships for college, develop leadership skills, while learning about their Indian Heritage and culture.
