    Course Description:

    The North Carolina ScienceEssential Standards maintain the respect for local control of each Local EducationAuthority (LEA) to design the specific curricular and instructional strategiesthat best deliver the content to their students. Nonetheless, engaging studentsin inquiry-based instruction is a critical way of developing conceptualunderstanding of the science content that is vital for success in thetwenty-first century. The process of scientific inquiry, experimentation andtechnological design should not be taught nor tested in isolation of the coreconcepts drawn from physical science, earth science and life science. Aseamless integration of science content, scientific inquiry, experimentationand technological design will reinforce in students the notion that"what" is known is inextricably tied to "how" it is known.A well-planned science curriculum provides opportunities for inquiry,experimentation and technological design. Teachers, when teaching science,should provide opportunities for students to engage in"hands-on/minds-on" activities which are exemplars of scientificinquiry, experimentation and technological design.

    Grading Criteria

    • Students will be graded on the following:

    ClassParticipation 30%           Tests 25%

    Attendance10%                      Class Work 35%

    • A student absent with more than  5 days in a given semester will not receive credit for that class in which the absence occur
    • Min-nine week report and IEP Report will be sent to parents by the student



    Your child is required andexpected to be in class on timeready to work and doing their best at all times.

    • Black pen/pencil
    • Writing paper
    • 3 ring binder to keep work in
