Welcome to 1st Grade
Welcome to 1st grade. My name is Faron Strickland and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I am looking forward to a very busy and enriching year with your child. It is my goal to make your child’s learning experience is fun, exciting and successful. It will amaze you when you see the progress your child has made throughout this school year. To ensure your child is enthusiastic and excited to learn, I encourage you to commend your child’s accomplishments.
As an educator I have very high expectations for all my students. My classroom expectations are as follows:
· Be respectful: Say or do nothing that will hurt or offend another person. Use appropriate language at all times. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
· Be responsible: Make sure you have your materials here at school. Materials include: pencils, books, homework assignments, etc.
· Listen and follow directions.
· Be curious: As questions when you don’t understand something.
· Participation is a requirement, not an option.
v Parent/Teacher Relationship (Communication): I feel that a good parent/teacher relationship is vital to ensure success for your child and the school overall. During the year I will be sure to communicate with you via notes, telephone calls, texts, e-mails, conferences, class newsletters, and academic progress reports. If you have any questions/concerns, please feel free to call and schedule a conference with me at 910-671-6025 to discuss your child’s progress.
v Changes in transportation: Please notify administration and myself upon changing how your child goes home from school to ensure they get home safely.
v Absences: If your child is absent from school you will need to send in a doctor’s note or a note explaining your child’s absence when he/she returns to school. If no note is received it will be marked as an unexcused absence.
v Homework: 1st grade homework contracts and homework folders will be sent home on Mondays. Students are expected to complete all homework for each night of the week and return folder daily with completed homework. Reading is a vital part of your child’s homework each night. I ask that you read with your child for a minimum of 20 minutes each night and record in your child’s reading log.
Once again, we are excited and look forward to working with you and your child this year. TOGETHER we will make a SUCCESSFUL team. Please return any forms that need to be signed as soon as possible. If there are any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to send a note, call, or stop by to see us.
Thanks, Faron Strickland
