The Mission Statement of the JROTC Program is to
" MOTIVATE YOUNG PEOPLE TO BE BETTER CITIZENS."
The JROTC Program prepares high school cadets for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities and privileges as American Citizens. The program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities, which will benefit the cadet, community and nation.
The scope, focus and contents of the instruction places emphasis on citizenship and leadership, the development of commutative skills, the incorporation of historical perspectives, and the requirement to participate in physical fitness programs. Specific course presentations include: the evolution of U.S.
Citizenship and the freedoms of the American People; Techniques of Communication, including the seven communication skills and oral presentations; a study of leadership traits, principal styles and the importance of diet and physical fitness in maintaining good health and appearance; First Aid for the beginner and advanced cadets; Map reading skills; the importance of the purpose, and creation, and current use of the U.S. Constitution; Air rifle marksmanship and firearms safety; and unlocking your potential.
Each cadet is expected to attend school on a regular basis, complete the homework assignments, and maintain good appearance especially while wearing the military uniform. Cadets are required to wear the uniform on each Wednesday of the semester.
The program also has after school activities leading to high school varsity letters. These activities include the JROTC Color Guard, Drill Team, Raider Team, and Rifle Team. The Corps of Cadets also supports the school and the local community throughout the year by participating in specific events.
On the back of this letter is an overview of the grading system in JROTC at Lumberton Senior High School.
