• EOG TESTING HINTS/CLUES

    *      Remind students that the test is important.

    *      THINK!  Read, Listen, and Follow directions carefully.

    *      Come up with the answer in your head before looking at the possible answers.

This way the choices given on the test will not throw you off or trick you.

    *      Eliminate answers you know are not right.

    *      Read all the choices before choosing your answer.

    *      If you are not sure of the answer, always take an educated guess and select an answer.

    *      Do not keep on changing your answer.  Usually your first choice is the right one, unless you miss-read the question.

    *      Usually the correct answer is the choice with the most information.

    *      Mark, write, highlight ((highlight) in the book.

    *      Manage your time.  Answer the easy questions first, then go back and work on the difficult ones.

    *      Answer ALL questions.

    *      Pay close attention to headings, titles, bold print, and italics.

    *      Use estimation to check answers.

    *      Reassure the students they do not have to answer all the questions correctly to pass.

    *      Look for key words in the test directions and questions such as: choose, describe, explain, compare, identify, similar, except, not, and but.

    *      Stay focused on the test.

    *      Usually your first choice is correct.

    *      When reading the selection, keep in mind to read slowly, reread complex and important sentences, and ask yourself often “What does this sentence, paragraph, stanza or passage mean?”

    *      All tests have some hard questions.  They are meant to stump you. It is best to make a good guess at the answer.  First, find any answers that you know are wrong.  Then look at the left over choices and make your best guess.

    *      Listen attentively to last minute instructions given by instructor.

    *      Plan how you will use the time for the test.

    *      When you have completed the test, use the remaining time effectively (check back over test).

    *      Use the process of elimination when you are not sure of the answer.

    *      When two very similar answers appear, it is likely that one of them is the correct choice.

    *      Watch for key words (always, never, all, etc.) in the instructions or in the main question.

    *      Remind students they should answer all questions and NEVER LEAVE ONE BLANK.

    *    Keep a steady pace and do not let more difficult questions affect your attitude and steal valuable time.
