    Re:  Welcome Letter

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you and your child and welcome you to my class.  I am the math EC teacher for grades 6, 7 and 8 at Fairgrove Middle School.  I am looking forward to a very exciting and fun year working with your child.  We will be learning a lot of new things this year.  I will expect only the very best from your child this year.  I believe that every child can learn and I will do my best with your support to bring out the very best in your child.  I will be sending out a syllabus on the first day of school.  I encourage you to read over it with your child and if you have any questions, feel free to call me.

For those of you who had me last your, you know that I will be in touch with you on a regular basis.  With open communication with parents, we can help your child to have a very successful year.  I expect your child to give me their very best and when they do that, they will be successful.  I am sending a list of what I expect my students to do each and every day.  These are simple and easy to do and when they are followed, everyone is happy.

TEN THINGS TO DO THAT WILL GET YOU WHAT YOU WANT IN LIFE

    1. When responding to an adult you must say “yes mam” or “yes sir.”
    2. When speaking to someone always look them square in the eyes.
    3. When someone in class does something well, congratulate them.
    4. When holding a classroom discussion, always respect other students’ opinions.
    5. If you win at something, do not brag.
    6. If you are asked a question, answer it and respond with a similar question.
    7. When you cough, sneeze, or burp, say excuse me.
    8. Do not roll you eyes, smack your lips, or suck your teeth to show disrespect.
    9. When someone gives you something, always say “thank you.”
    10. When you are given something that you might already have, do not insult the giver by saying you already have one or you do not like the gift.

Again, WELCOME to my class and to a new and exciting year filled with new learning.  This is a new year and we are all starting with a clean slate and we are going to write only the very best on our new slate.

This picture was when I had the honor to meet the Queen of Jordan and she signed her book for me and I was allowed to speak with her for five minutes.
This is when I had the privilege of meeting the Queen of Jordan.
