Together we can SOAR to new heights!
My name is Dr. Michael Shane Fletcher. This is my 16th year of teaching. I have taught 6th grade science and social studies at Union Chapel Elementary now for 15 years.
I received a Master's Degree in Reading Education at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in December of 2007. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher as a Middle Childhood Generalist. I am currently a doctoral student at North Carolina State University...Sorry to all my Tarheel and Blue Devils fans, but this classroom is officially a red and black Wolfpackin' site. I completed my PhD in Curriculum and Instruction in Literacy with a focus on middle-grades technology in December of 2016.
I grew up in Dawsonville, Georgia where my parents and sister still live. It is Georgia's official birthplace of NASCAR and is close to the area of Georgia's claim to the 1st Eastern Gold Rush, both of which are disputed and claimed by North Carolina....don't know who'll ever settle those disputes.
I am married to Tonnye Williams Fletcher who teaches music at Whiteville Primary School in Whiteville, NC. She and I live in Chadbourn, NC with our cat, Sparkles and our turtle, Blinkey. Our house was originally built in Whiteville in 1882 and was moved to her family's farm in 1992, where we're continuing remodeling work to restore it to it's original grandeur.
I am passionate about history and love the sixth grade curriculum, which focuses on the ancient world through the Middle Ages. I also enjoy teaching science and love to conduct experiments. I love reading and writing, as well. I have a constructivist based philosophy about teaching and believe that my students and I are all learners and can contribute to the learning community in classroom and our school. I believe in a hands-on, project-based curriculum. I am an avid supporter of using new technologies to help motivate and teach my students. Please feel free to email me at email@example.com
as you have questions or concerns throughout this year.
Let's work together; students, parents and teachers, to have a successful year for all!
