    Text:                Glencoe- Biology:  The Dynamics of Life

     

    Welcome to Biology (Honors).  This is going to be a very challenging course and I hope you are up for the challenge.  I am here to make this a successful learning experience for you.  I want you to be successful.  The topics we will be covering in Biology are as follows:

    ·         The ability necessary to do and understand scientific inquiry.

    ·         An understanding of the physical, chemical, and cellular basis of life.

    ·         An understanding of the continuity of life and the changes of            organisms over time.

    ·         An understanding of the unity and diversity of life.

    ·         An understanding of the ecological relationships among organisms.

     

    9-Weeks Grading Criteria:

    • Your Final Exam/EOC will be 25% of your final grade for the course.

     

    Expectations and Requirements:

    Students are expected to be in class everyday, and be on time.  All work must be submitted on time, neat, and complete.  All students are expected to follow all rules and guidelines in the Student Handbook and the Student Code of Conduct.  All students will respect each other and the teacher at all times.  Bullying and disrespect will not be tolerated.  Students are to follow instructions at all times.  Students must be prepared for class, in their seat, and ready to work when the bell rings. Students will be required to keep a notebook for Biology I and need to have a 2” 3-ring binder to use only for Biology.  Students will be expected to have paper, #2 pencils, blue or black pens, notebooks and textbooks in class EVERY DAY.  Other supplies students will need for Biology I are coloring pencils, a pack of 4” by 6” index cards, a pack of dividers for the notebook and a marble type notebook. 

    Attendance is extremely important in Biology I.  We will be covering and reviewing a lot of information daily.  Students should not be absent, tardy or checkout early unless it is an extreme emergency.  All students are required to keep a copy of this syllabus in the front of their notebooks for the entire semester.  It will be referred to often.

     


     

    Classroom Rules:

    1. Bring all needed materials to class.  (It’s your responsibility)
    2. Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings.  (Students not seated when the bell rings will be sent to get a tardy)
    3. All assignments should be turned in on time. (No copying or plagiarism)
    4. Respect and be polite to all people. (No profanity will be tolerated)
    5. Respect school and other people’s property. (No writing on tables)

     

    As a student of this course, you are responsible for all work assigned, whether or not you are present.  My e-mail is on this syllabus if you need to contact me.  You are expected to complete assignments on time.  Work handed in late will receive a lower grade than work handed in on time.  If I cannot read your work, your answers will be counted as incorrect.

     

    Learning centers will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15pm – 4:00pm for the following purposes only:

    ·         Tutoring – Students with less than a 75 average must attend.

    ·         Make-up tests and work for students who have excused absences.

    ·         Retesting for students who failed a test (made less than a 70%). Before testing, a student must attend at least one learning center for tutoring.  Retesting will not be allowed for passing students or for students who do not make a legitimate effort to pass the scheduled test.  Students can only retake 3 test per semester.

    ·                     Missed work is to be completed upon returning to school. Students have 2 weeks to re-do assignments.  Work can only be redone once.  If missing assignments are not completed they will be given a zero.

     

     

    Saturday Academy is available for making up days.  Students must be in the building by 8:00am or the doors will be locked.  Students are dismissed by 1:00pm.
