    GREETINGS!

My name is Victoria Wallace. I am a new member of the G. Carroll Middle School staff. I have served exceptional children and their families as a teacher and administrator for 23 years in North and South Carolina. It is a privilege to work in a school district with a staff so committed to preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century. I look forward to this year and the opportunity to  work with you and your child. Please contact me any time you have questions or concerns.

    MY EXPECTATION FOR THIS YEAR:

Every student will make positive choices so they may succeed in class, develop personal goals and formulate ideas for their future.

    FOCUS OF THIS SEMESTER:

STUDENTS WILL RECOGNIZE THAT THEY ARE VALUED, IDENTIFY THEIR INDIVIDUAL TALENTS AND DETERMINE HOW TO USE THEIR BEHAVIOR AND ENERGY IN A POSITIVE WAY IN ORDER TO MOVE FORWARD EDUCATIONALLY.

    SEMESTER ACTIVITIES:

*Vocabulary development (development of a vocabulary notebook, selection of
words to understand from current events and daily lessons)
    * Current events (local and national news--understanding "our" world)
    * Affective curreculum (self-image, social skills)
    * Language Arts groups (composing simple sentences, using capitalization and
       punctuation)
    * Math (identification and values of money, using a calculator, numeration skills,
       computing basic operations)
    * Mastering sight words, improving decoding skills and reading comprehension)
    * Life skills (group work to focus on handling an emergency and communication of
       critical ID information)
    * Self Help (importance of being organized, maintaining a routine, cleanliness and
       assuming responsibility)
    * Behavior Skills (identifying behaviors that need improvement and effecting positive
       change)
    * Social Studies (learning about our state, our country, maps and our world)
    * Science (understanding our body, how it functions and what choices we make
       to keep it healthy)

    A NOTE ABOUT HOMEWORK:

Each evening students are required to watch local or national news programs and bring one story of interest to our early morning group entitiled "Current Events". This gives us an opportunity to "network" ideas and allows us to discuss lots of topics that otherwise would not come up during the day. It stretches our brain to think beyond our current boundaries!

Also, students are required to practice their sight words and complete any unfinished class work.

    A FINAL WORD:

It is important to me and the teacher assistants (Ms. Smith and Ms. Gill) that we understand any issues (medical, behavioral or emotional) that your child may be experiencing. WE MUST WORK AS A TEAM. Please keep us informed throughout the year! We want to support you in any way possible. Only if we work together can we help these young students realize their potential!

Student should review each evening with an adult their sight words. Occassionally,
unfinished pages from daily work will be sent home to be returned completed the next morning.
