EOG TESTING HINTS/CLUES
Remind students that the test is important.
THINK! Read, Listen, and Follow directions carefully.
Come up with the answer in your head before looking at the possible answers.
This way the choices given on the test will not throw you off or trick you.
Eliminate answers you know are not right.
Read all the choices before choosing your answer.
If you are not sure of the answer, always take an educated guess and select an answer.
Do not keep on changing your answer. Usually your first choice is the right one, unless you miss-read the question.
Usually the correct answer is the choice with the most information.
Mark, write, highlight ((highlight) in the book.
Manage your time. Answer the easy questions first, then go back and work on the difficult ones.
Answer ALL questions.
Pay close attention to headings, titles, bold print, and italics.
Use estimation to check answers.
Reassure the students they do not have to answer all the questions correctly to pass.
Look for key words in the test directions and questions such as: choose, describe, explain, compare, identify, similar, except, not, and but.
Stay focused on the test.
Usually your first choice is correct.
When reading the selection, keep in mind to read slowly, reread complex and important sentences, and ask yourself often “What does this sentence, paragraph, stanza or passage mean?”
All tests have some hard questions. They are meant to stump you. It is best to make a good guess at the answer. First, find any answers that you know are wrong. Then look at the left over choices and make your best guess.
Listen attentively to last minute instructions given by instructor.
Plan how you will use the time for the test.
When you have completed the test, use the remaining time effectively (check back over test).
Use the process of elimination when you are not sure of the answer.
When two very similar answers appear, it is likely that one of them is the correct choice.
Watch for key words (always, never, all, etc.) in the instructions or in the main question.
Remind students they should answer all questions and NEVER LEAVE ONE BLANK.
Keep a steady pace and do not let more difficult questions affect your attitude and steal valuable time.
