  • Youth Civic Development Summit
    The Youth Civic Development Summer Institute is an opportunity for students to develop life skills through service-related projects, all while building experience, confidence and becoming engaged members of society. Throughout the week students will enhance their writing, reading, and math skills through workshops and projects that focus on civic engagement and service. The program also incorporates skills in financial literacy, public speaking, technology, health, team building, and more!   • Challenge Academy at FSU
    Forty individuals will have the opportunity to participate in The Shelton Challenge, a one-week summer adventure for high school students in grades 9 through 12. The academy will be held on campus of Fayetteville State University.
    The Shelton Challenge is a summer experience for rising freshmen, sophomore, juniors, and seniors. Shelton's cornerstones of values-based leadership - honesty, integrity, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility - are the foundations of the experience. The core curriculum focuses on leadership roles and accountability, team building, leadership styles and situations, social responsibility, integrity as a leader, public speaking, changing behaviors, and goal setting.
    By attending the program, participants will:

    • Participate in team-building activities focused on honesty, integrity, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility

    • Assess personal leadership skills and practice leading teammates daily

    • Through teamwork, practice interpersonal skills, leadership styles, goal setting, how to motivate others, personal presence and public speaking, ethical decision making and how to change behaviors

    • Participate in a service project in a local community

    • Develop and practice skills related to self and team reflection to relate to current experiences to future applications, with the ultimate intent of continuous character improvement

    • Participate in planning fun night activities such an ice cream social, talent show, dance, game night, and much more

    The camp is open to the first 40 students who register. Participants must be rising ninth through 12th grade student and have a grade point average of 3.0 or better. The cost is $550 and includes meals, lodging, and program curriculum. A $100 deposit toward the total cost is required.     Come and explore all things beautiful, both inside and outside. Learn how to look good with proper hair, nail and skin care.     This summer the RCC Services Corporation is offering a fun and educational Math and Science Summer Camp for youth who are in grades 6-8 and 9-12 at time of registration. National Junior Beta Club

PURPOSE OF THE NATIONAL JUNIOR BETA CLUB

The National Junior Beta Club promotes the ideals of honesty, service, ethical conduct and leadership among Pembroke Middle students. Eligible students must be working on or above grade level. Prospective members must be approved by the principal of the school.

The National Junior Beta Club is an honor society and to be a member one must meet certain criteria. Criteria for membership in the Pembroke Middle Junior Beta Club are as follows:

1. The student must be of worthy character.

2. The student will have a 3.5 grade average without a C to be initially inducted.

3. The student may not have any grade below a C during the nine weeks.

4. The student will be on probationary status for nine weeks if he/she makes a C.

5. At the end of the probationary period, grades must have improved and all

grades during the remainder of the student’s years at PMS must be A’s and

B’s. A student’s membership will be terminated if he/she has another C.

6. If a student is given OSS at any time, after he/she has been notified of

induction plans, his/her membership will be terminated.

7. If a student is given ISS at any time, after he/she has been notified of induction

plans, he/she will be on probationary status. When a second ISS is given, the

student’s membership will be terminated.

8. No student who is on probationary status will be permitted to attend the NC

Junior Beta Club convention.

At the end of every nine weeks, grades will be monitored. ISS and OSS assignments will be monitored daily.

Induction will take place only during the Spring Semester. Members will be charged a non-refundable $18.00 fee ($15 for National and $3 for Pembroke Middle School) which covers cost of a pin, certificate, monthly journal and a personalized Beta Club card.
