LUMBERTON — While most people are headed to the water for summer fun, two eighth-grade science teachers from the Public Schools of Robeson County spent a day this past week testing water along the Lumber River.

The teachers attended a Professional Development on Water Quality Testing program at the Lumber River State Park in Orrum. The teachers, Leigh Oxendine, of Red Springs Middle; and Josie Torrence, of Fairmont Middle; said the training was a great experience. As part of the training, the teachers went through the process of water quality testing.  The teachers are looking at ways to incorporate the water testing into eighth-grade classes at their school.

The Public Schools of Robeson County’s Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability Department was the program’s host.
