MCKENNEY VENTO HOMELESS ACT

McKinney Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth

The McKinney Vento Act defines homeless children and youth as those who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes children and youth doubling up temporarily with family, living in a shelter, and living on the streets.

Eligible students have the right to:

1) Go to school

2) Receive free school meals

3) Receive transportation (May Require Board Approval)

4) Continue to attend same school of origin

5) Enroll, attend classes, and participate in school functions
