LUMBERTON — The Public Schools of Robeson County recognized two employees for their outstanding service to students, colleagues and their school communities during the September 8, 2026 meeting of the PSRC Board of Education.
Chanda Hughes, a Math teacher at Fairmont High School, was named the district’s Certified Impact Award recipient, while Vinson Henderson, Head Custodian at St. Pauls High School, was named the Classified Impact Award recipient.
“The monthly Impact Award honors employees who exemplify the district’s ‘One Team. One Goal’ commitment through collaboration, leadership and dedication to creating supportive environments where students and staff can thrive,” said PSRC Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Jamal Campbell.
Certified Impact Award — Chanda Hughes
Hughes was recognized for making an impact that extends well beyond her classroom at Fairmont High School.
“Chanda Hughes exemplifies dedication as a Math IV teacher and tireless advocate for Fairmont High School’s students and mission,” Fairmont High School Principal Dr. Anthony Barton said.
In addition to her work as an educator, Hughes helps organize experiences that make students’ senior year memorable, including Senior Sunrise, Senior Sunset and the senior trip. She also regularly volunteers her time during home athletic events, working concession stands for baseball, football and basketball.
Barton praised Hughes for her positive attitude, school pride and willingness to step in wherever she is needed.
Her commitment to both academic excellence and the broader school community reflects the spirit of the Impact Award and the difference educators can make through service to students and one another.
Classified Impact Award — Vinson Henderson
Henderson was honored for his dedication and servant leadership as head custodian at St. Pauls High School.
“Vinson Henderson is the true definition of dedication, hard work and servant leadership,” St. Pauls High School Principal Jason Suggs said. “As our Head Custodian, he takes tremendous pride in ensuring our school is a safe, clean and welcoming place for students and staff, consistently going above and beyond behind the scenes.”
Suggs said Henderson embodies the district’s “One Team. One Goal.” motto by leading through reliability, a positive attitude and genuine care for others.
“His impact is felt throughout our entire school community,” Suggs said.
PSRC celebrates Hughes and Henderson for the meaningful difference they make each day and for demonstrating how every member of the district team contributes to student success and a positive school culture.
The district also extends its appreciation to Brandon Ventura and Sign City for their continued support in providing commemorative Impact Award plaques.
