Union Chapel's 12 Days of Christmas kicked off today! Over the next 12 school days, we'll be celebrating the holiday spirit with fun dress-up days. Today's theme was "Tis the Season: Wear Red and Green," and we couldn't think of a better way to start than by spreading some holiday cheer in our festive colors. A big thank you to all the students and staff who participated in today’s event!

The students in Mrs. Audrey Chavis' kindergarten class are pictured here playing Boomwhackers Tuned Percussion Tubes during music class. A big thank you to our music teacher, Mrs. Angela Oxendine, for giving our students the opportunity to explore these fun and unique instruments. It certainly looks like they’re having a blast!

In observance of the Pembroke Christmas Parade, school will dismiss early at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, December 5th. Please note that there will be no afterschool care available. We kindly ask that you make the necessary arrangements for your child’s pickup. Thank you for your cooperation.

Join us for our Holiday Celebration next Tuesday, following the Parent/Teacher Conferences. The afternoon will be filled with exciting events, starting with conferences from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the teachers' classrooms. At 6:15 p.m., our Christmas Program will begin in the cafeteria, featuring performances by our 2nd and 3rd grade classes. While you're there, be sure to visit the cafeteria foyer to enjoy a display of the students' holiday artwork. We look forward to celebrating with you!

We invite all of our Tiger Grandparents to attend our Grandparents' Breakfast next Tuesday, December 10th, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Flyers will be going home today, so please share them with all of our students' grandparents.

The students in Ms. Bobbie Cummings' third-grade class are captured here working together to explore the fascinating world of frogs and the adaptations that help them survive. We are thrilled to see such collaboration and teamwork in our classrooms!

"Deck the halls with these cute faces Fa la la la la, la la la la ..." We can't get enough of our faculty and staff when they were elementary school children! Sometimes our students don't believe that we, too, have been there and done that, and this bulletin board put up by our art teacher, Mrs. Whitney Oxendine, is a wonderful reminder of the fact that teachers and staff were once kids just like them. What a fun and creative way to connect with students! Thank you, Mrs. Whitney, for this fantastic addition to the school environment and for making the hallways feel more engaging and personal. This small gesture not only sparks curiosity but also fosters a sense of community by showing that everyone has a history and a journey. Kudos for making Union Chapel School even more special!

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to each of you—our dedicated students, families, teachers, and staff. This season is a time to reflect on all that we are thankful for, and we are truly appreciative of the support, kindness, and hard work that make our school community so special. We hope that this holiday provides you with the opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones, to rest, and to recharge. Please remember that the school will be closed on Wednesday, November 27th through Friday, November 29th in observance of Thanksgiving. Wishing you all a wonderful, peaceful, and joyful Thanksgiving. American Indians wear beads as part of a long-standing tradition that allows them to express their cultural identity, share stories, and honor their heritage. Through intricate designs on clothing and accessories, beadwork conveys important concepts, with specific colors and patterns often carrying deep meaning within each tribe. In essence, beading serves as both a form of storytelling and a way to preserve cultural connections across generations. We appreciate the staff and students who wore their beadwork today as part of National Native American Heritage Month.

We are excited to announce our Students of the Month for October. These students were chosen by their teacher to represent their class based on exhibiting outstanding behavior. Congratulations to them all! If your child received a Tiger yard sign to proudly display for the month, please send in their picture so they can be recognized online.

Indigenous people love to represent their tribe through the clothing they wear. There's plenty of tribal pride here at Union Chapel today as the students and staff sport their Indigenous skirts, shirts, and mocs. We proudly support our local American Indian craftspeople.
