Laptops have been collected for third through sixth grade students and will not be sent home anymore this school year. We have many laptops that have been returned without the charger. If your child still has their charger at home, please return it to school tomorrow. Thank you.

Please help spread the word that TODAY is the last day for tutoring. I apologize for the short notice. If your child normally stays for tutoring on Mondays and Tuesdays, today will be the last day to stay. Please make alternate arrangements for your child throughout the remainder of this school year. We continue with Day 5 of Teacher Appreciation Week. This is the last day we will highlight a group of teachers, assistants, and support personnel. We have an awesome group of instructional leaders and we want to celebrate them for all they do to make Union Chapel School a great place to learn! Here's to our resource teachers and our support staff. I think it's safe to say that resource teachers get all the love. Their classes offer a much-needed break from academics and allow the students to focus on their creative side in art and music and they can let off some steam in PE. These teachers are unique in that they get to work with every single student on our campus. That's a lot of names and personalities to remember. We commend these teachers for a job well done. Our support staff works with special populations in our school. They are not in a regular classroom; usually, these teachers and assistants pull small groups of students to work with. They are the ones who have the flexibility to help out all over campus whenever an emergency arises or a vacancy occurs. We appreciate this group for being able to work under various working conditions throughout the day. We cannot thank these staff members enough for the hard work they put into ensuring the success of their students. Take a bow!

I've got some news for you! Let me introduce you to Zac'ariah Oxendine. Zac'ariah is a third grade student here at Union Chapel Elementary School. Here are some fun facts about Zac'ariah: * He likes to go hunting and fishing. (An outdoorsman for sure.) * His favorite animal is a deer. (I'm guessing it's Rudolph.) * His favorite color is purple. (The color of royalty.) * His favorite food is Chinese cuisine. (With rice or noodles, Zac?) * He wants to be a game warden when he grows up. (Hunters need to follow rules too.) Mrs. Kimberly Clancy, Zac'ariah's teacher, said, "Zac does a great job in class. He has great participation, especially in math. His attendance is super and he always has something to share. Zac is a good helper to his peers. " What a great compliment! Zac'ariah is featured on our Facebook page because he purchased this certificate in our PBIS Store. If your child would like to receive a shout-out on our social media pages, they can buy this opportunity using their PBIS points. We love highlighting our wonderful students.

We continue with Day 4 of Teacher Appreciation Week. Each day we will highlight a group of teachers and teacher assistants. We have an awesome group of instructional leaders and we want to celebrate them for all they do to make Union Chapel School a great place to learn! Here's to our fifth and sixth grade teachers. Whoa, boy! You want to know why these teachers are Super Heroes? Because they are so close to teaching middle schoolers it isn't even funny. And middle school teachers deserve their own special place in heaven. Our fifth and sixth grade teachers work daily to not only navigate teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic, but they have to weave and bob to figure out who's not talking to who today and why someone is mad that someone else breathed too loudly! I'm telling you, it's a thing. But we appreciate these individuals more than they will ever comprehend for doing it all so seamlessly. We cannot thank these teachers enough for the hard work they put into ensuring the success of their students. Take a bow, teachers!

We have had a wonderful Staff Appreciation Week at Union Chapel School. Yesterday we were treated to pizza and dessert for lunch provided by our County Commissioner, Mrs. Judy Sampson, and our school board representative, Mr. Terry Blake Locklear. I apologize for not getting pictures from earlier in the week, but we also want to thank McNeill's Catering and Food Truck for lunch on Monday, Fuller's BBQ for lunch on Tuesday, and Pembroke Waste Collection for breakfast on Thursday. We are so blessed to have a community that values the hard work and efforts of those who work in our school. Your kindness is appreciated more than you will ever know.

We are tickled pink about our new mini library. This little cutie was gifted to us by The Robeson County Reading Council and is a book-sharing box where the entire Union Chapel community can get a FREE book to read. Community members can also add books to the box if they have books they have already read and would like to share with others. What a neat idea and a great addition to our community. We cannot thank these individuals enough for this wonderful gift.

(Just like the sweatshirt he's sporting in his pic.) * His favorite food is pizza. (Pepperoni or cheese?) * He wants to be a doctor when he grows up. We continue with Day 3 of Teacher Appreciation Week. Each day we will highlight a group of teachers and teacher assistants. We have an awesome group of instructional leaders and we want to celebrate them for all they do to make Union Chapel School a great place to learn! Here's to our third and fourth grade teachers. Third grade teachers are very special to us because they work with students who haven't quite grasped if they are ready to leave all things associated with K-2 and become part of the 4-6 world. It's a tricky time for teachers and students alike. And fourth grade teachers are the lucky ones who get to experience the students when they realize they are too cool for ALL the things. Nevertheless, these teachers persevere and keep things rolling. We cannot thank these teachers enough for the hard work they put into ensuring the success of their students. Take a bow, teachers!

Do you know what you are looking at here? This is a group of PUBLISHED authors and illustrators and they are only in Pre - K. Yep, you read that right! Our Pre - K students, with the help of their teacher, Mrs. Kery Locklear, and their teacher assistant, Mrs. Kasurry Russell, wrote and illustrated their very own book entitled, "The Snapping Crocodile." I don't want to give away the plot, but you are going to want to get your hands on this good read. 10 out of 10...highly recommend! Thank you, Mrs. Kery and Mrs. Kasurry, for providing our littlest Tigers with this awesome opportunity! The teachers want to thank Mrs. Kristen Elk-Maynor for the idea of the story and the help along the way. We appreciate everyone who takes a vested interest in our students.
