It is National School Resource Officer Day. These officers fill a three-part role, serving as informal mentors or counselors, law educators, and law enforcement officers to support the students and communities they serve. They are valuable and essential members of the education community who deserve unwavering respect and support from the public in the pursuit of keeping schools and students safe. We want to thank our school resource officer, Mr. Drake Strickland for all he does to keep the students and staff at Union Chapel School safe and for helping to make it a great place to learn.

Our fourth-grade students completed science fair projects where they carried out scientific research and identified science variables like true scientists. We are proud of these students for learning about the scientific method.
Ayden Cummings placed first with “How Weight Affects a Drone’s Battery”, Karmen Cummings placed 2nd with “Exploring Beach Erosion”, and Edwin Locklear placed third with “Magnetic Levitating Trains”. All three of these students will go on to the Regional Science Fair at UNC-Pembroke on February 17, 2024.
The projects submitted did an outstanding job representing science and engineering! We appreciate our fourth-grade science teacher, Mrs. Whitney Oxendine, for helping our students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Way to go, Tigers!

Kindergarten students will have a free dental screening provided by the Robeson County Health Department tomorrow. Consent forms were sent home earlier with the students, so if you would like for your child to receive this service, please make sure their form is returned.
Also, please make plans to join us for our Title 1 Reading Night this Thursday, February 8th starting at 5:00. Come dressed as your favorite book character and leave with some awesome reading strategies to help your child at home.
