Students advance to regional competitions


LUMBERTON — Several local FFA members showed off their skills at the Lumber River FFA Federation Competition held recently at Purnell Swett High School.

The competition consisted of multiple challenges that local FFA members in Fairmont, Lumberton, Purnell Swett and St. Pauls high schools competed in such as job interviews, tool identification, public speaking and more. 

The following students placed at the event:

  • 1st Place FFA Creed Speaking: Kamryn Locklear, Purnell Swett FFA 

  • 1st Place Prepared Public Speaking: Torrien Jones, Purnell Swett FFA

  • 1st Place Extemporaneous Public Speaking: Garrett Merlo, Lumberton FFA

  • 1st Place Job Interview/Employability Skills: Taniyah Beatty McNair, St. Pauls FFA

  • 1st Place Parliamentary Procedure: Lumberton FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team

  • 1st Place Tool ID: Lumberton FFA Tool ID Team

  • 2nd Place Employment Skills: Hayden Florita,  Purnell Swett FFA

  • 3rd Place Job Interview: Sydney Bass, Fairmont FFA

  • 3rd Place Creed Speaking: Gracie Freeman, Fairmont FFA

  • 4th Place Extemporaneous Public Speaking: Zoe Lowry, Purnell Swett FFA

  • 4th Place Creed Speaking: Angel Morales, St. Pauls FFA

  • 4th Place Prepared Public Speaking: Ashton Callahan, Fairmont FFA

The top three students in Creed, Parliamentary Procedure, Prepared and Extemporaneous Public Speaking and top two in Employability Skills will advance to the South Central Regional Rally on April 26 at FTCC. The top three Tool ID teams advance to the 96th NC FFA State Convention in June to compete.

“Congratulations, students!” said PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson. 

“The FFA organization is a wonderful organization to be a part of. Each of you has the opportunity to learn new skills and to become better leaders and communicators as you compete in these events and complete various projects in your schools and communities through your FFA chapters. Keep up the good work!” Dr. Williamson added.

Lumberton FFA members’ Tool ID Team took 1st Place during the Lumber River FFA Federation Competition held recently at Purnell Swett High School.
