Student Leadership Spotlight
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Oxendine Elementary Beta Club students. We’re proud of these student leaders for representing their school with confidence and pride!
🤝 Honoring Community, Celebrating Partners in Education
PSRC proudly recognized the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina for achieving full federal recognition after more than 137 years of advocacy. Board members shared reflections on the historic milestone and reaffirmed PSRC’s commitment to Lumbee students, families, and partnerships.
❤️ School Board Appreciation Month
January is School Board Appreciation Month, and PSRC thanked Board members for their service, leadership, and dedication to students, families, and staff across the district.
🌟 January Impact Awards – Staff Recognition
👏 Certified Impact Award:
Mr. Ricardo Navarrete, Band/Music Teacher at Orrum Middle School, was recognized for his teamwork, flexibility, and support of students and staff—truly living One Team, One Goal.
👏 Classified Impact Award:
Ms. Christy Ward, Secretary/Bookkeeper at Parkton School, was honored for 36 years of service to PSRC and her unwavering dedication to her school community.
🍎 Supporting Families: PrimeTime Program
The Board received an update on PrimeTime, PSRC’s before- and after-school care program. PrimeTime serves approximately 450 students across 13 schools, providing safe, affordable care for working families.
🍎 Nourishing Students
Updates were shared on the Child and Adult Care Food Program, which ensures eligible students receive nutritious meals and snacks through federally supported funding.
🏆 Celebrating Teaching Excellence
🎉 Ms. Rhyane Jacobs, Union Chapel Elementary educator, was recognized as a finalist for the 2026 NCCAT Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. We are proud of her dedication and impact on students!
📊 Board Action Items
✔️ The Monthly Financial Report was approved.
⏸️ Construction Committee recommendations were discussed and tabled to be discussed at a later date.
🔒 Closed Session
The Board entered Closed Session to discuss personnel matters, legal matters, and closed session minutes.
✔️ The Personnel Report was approved upon return to Open Session.
