Dr. Barton

FAIRMONT — Fairmont High School Principal Dr. Anthony Barton has been selected for the highly competitive 2026–2027 cohort of the Leverage Leadership Institute (LLI) Fellowship, a national program designed to develop exceptional school leaders into transformative instructional leaders.

Dr. Barton was chosen based on his proven track record of driving student achievement and his strong commitment to instructional excellence. The LLI Fellowship brings together a diverse network of principals and principal supervisors from across the country and around the world, all dedicated to improving outcomes for students through focused leadership practices.

I am truly thankful to Dr. Williamson and Dr. Carr for giving me the opportunity to represent the Public Schools of Robeson County and to continue growing as an instructional leader,” Dr. Barton said.

“Under Dr. Williamson’s leadership, I have learned a great deal through the Relay professional development offered in our district, and implementing those strategies in the schools I have led has contributed to the success we have experienced. I am grateful for the support and mentorship I have received, and I look forward to this opportunity and the knowledge and continued growth that will come with it,” Dr. Barton added.

The year-long fellowship emphasizes excellence in executing key leadership strategies and building the capacity of others to do the same. Participants engage in intensive professional learning experiences, collaboration, and real-world application aimed at strengthening school leadership and student success.

“Dr. Barton’s selection for this prestigious program is a reflection of his dedication to students, staff, and the Fairmont High School community,” said PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson. “We are proud to see his leadership recognized on a national level.”

The fellowship includes a series of required in-person sessions held across the United States, beginning with a kickoff in Orlando, Florida, in May 2026. Additional sessions will take place in New Orleans, Denver, Albany, New York City, and College Park, Maryland through May 2027.

While the program is tuition-free, fellows commit to full participation, including attending all sessions, completing program requirements, and engaging in ongoing collaboration with peers.

Dr. Barton’s participation in the Leverage Leadership Institute underscores his continued commitment to excellence in education and his dedication to ensuring success for every student at Fairmont High School.
