LUMBERTON — L. Gilbert Carroll Middle School students have earned an outstanding third-place finish in the Elementary Division at the Regional Battle of the Books Competition, held at Bladen Community College.
The team’s achievement reflects months of preparation, teamwork, and a strong commitment to literacy and academic excellence. Competing against top teams from across the region, Carroll Middle students demonstrated an impressive depth of knowledge and a true passion for reading.
“I could not be more proud of our students for earning third place in the regional Battle of the Books competition. Watching them pour their hearts into reading, practicing, and supporting one another has been truly inspiring. This achievement is about so much more than a plaque and medals, it reflects their commitment, teamwork, and love for learning. They represented L. Gilbert Carroll Middle School with pride, determination, and excellence, and they have given our entire school community something to celebrate,” said CMS Principal Zach Jones.
PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson echoed Jones’ words.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for this accomplishment,” said PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson. “Their dedication, perseverance, and love of reading were on full display and they represented Carroll Middle School with excellence.”
Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program designed to encourage students to read widely and engage in friendly academic competition. The team’s success highlights the school’s continued focus on fostering strong literacy skills and a culture of learning.
