LUMBERTON — The Public Schools of Robeson County proudly congratulates Ms. Mary Watson, a third-grade teacher at Rowland Norment Elementary School, on being named the 2026–2027 PSRC NCCTM Outstanding Math Teacher of the Year.

This prestigious recognition, presented in partnership with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics, honors educators who demonstrate excellence in mathematics instruction while inspiring a genuine enthusiasm for learning among their students.

Ms. Watson exemplifies these qualities through her dedication to engaging, high-quality instruction that encourages students to build confidence and achieve success in mathematics each day. Her commitment to fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a positive learning environment has made a meaningful impact on her students and school community.

“Ms. Watson’s passion for mathematics instruction and her commitment to student success are evident in the work she does each day,” said PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson. “She creates engaging learning experiences that help students develop confidence and a love for mathematics, and we are proud to see her recognized with this well-deserved honor.”

As the PSRC recipient, Ms. Watson will receive a one-year membership to the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics, a personalized award, and recognition during the NCCTM State Conference. Her achievement will also be highlighted in the fall issue of The Centroid and featured on the NCCTM website.
