📋 Board Highlights | July 14, 2026
The Public Schools of Robeson County Board of Education held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 14, with several important organizational, informational, and action items.
⚖️ Board Leadership
The meeting began with the administration of the Oath of Office for re-elected Board of Education members Tre' Britt, Melissa Davis-Ocean, Crystal Monroe, and Dr. Linda Emanuel. The Board also named John Simmons Chairman and Bradley Phillips Vice Chairman of the PSRC Board of Education for the 2026-2027 academic year.
🏈 Community Partnership Recognition
The Board recognized community partners whose support helped make this year's Sports Physical Day a success. Special thanks were extended to UNC Health Southeastern, the Beta Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and Outback Steakhouse of Lumberton for their commitment to the health and well-being of PSRC student-athletes.

Board members received updates on:
✅ The 2026-2027 Testing Calendar
🏗️ Construction progress of the Robeson Career & Technical Education Center and Robeson Planetarium & Science Center (Grand Opening on August 21 at 8 a.m. and Facility Tours on August 22 from 9 a.m. to noon, tentatively)
💰 The district's Fiscal Monitoring Review (No findings were reported.)
🔍 Superintendent Search
The Board heard presentations from multiple superintendent search firms — McPherson & Jacobson, HYA & Associates, BWP & Associates, and the North Carolina School Boards Association as the district begins the process of selecting its next superintendent. The board selected the North Carolina School Boards Association to oversee the process.

The Board approved:
• 🍎 PSRC Beginning Teacher Support Program Plan
• ♿ Exceptional Children contracts
• 💵 2025-2026 budget amendments
• 📊 Monthly financial report
🏛️ The Board also discussed the naming of the Robeson Career & Technical Education Center and Robeson Planetarium & Science Center. The board voted to keep the name Robeson CTEC and to place plaques inside of the facility honoring Dr. Barry Harding, Dr. Johnny Hunt and Mr. James Hooks.
Following closed session, the Board approved personnel recommendations and closed session minutes before adjourning the meeting.
