LUMBERTON — A local school principal will soon participate in the 2026-2027 Distinguished Leadership in Practice (DLP) cohort designed to give school principals the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills and grow in the profession.
Tanglewood Elementary Principal Dr. Jessica Floyd will participate in the leadership program during the 2026-2027 academic year.
The DLP program, offered through the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals’ Association (NCPAPA) is a yearlong series that includes five face-to-face sessions and multiple virtual activities aimed at helping school administrators lead change, improve teaching and learning and more. The program is aligned with the North Carolina School Executive standards, according to the NCPAPA website.
“Through participating in the Distinguished Leadership in Practice Program, I hope to refine my strategic leadership skills and deepen my capacity to drive sustainable, school-wide improvement,” Dr. Floyd said.
“I aim to acquire actionable strategies for cultivating a collaborative, high-growth culture, strengthening instructional practices, and aligning team performance with student achievement. Ultimately, I look forward to using this framework to reflect on my practice, elevate my executive leadership, and create a lasting, positive impact on our school community,” Dr. Floyd added.
PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson praised the program for its high-value and return for school leaders.
“This program is an excellent opportunity for Dr. Floyd to continue honing her skills as an instructional leader. Her leadership is exemplary and I know this program will help her grow in her professional journey while strengthening her ability to lead, inspire and make a lasting impact on the students, staff and school community she serves,” Dr. Williamson said.
