Esparza delivers supplies collected during Governor Stein’s Annual School Supply Drive
ROBESON COUNTY — Piney Grove Elementary School received a special delivery on Wednesday as part of Governor Josh Stein’s Annual School Supply Drive.
PSRC officials, school administrators and staff welcomed Gabriel J. Esparza, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Administration (NCDOA), and members of his team as they visited the district to deliver school supplies and share encouragement with students and staff.
“We are delighted to provide school supplies that will help the students and teachers of Piney Grove Elementary,” said NC Department of Administration Secretary Gabriel J. Esparza.
“Our agency collected nearly 30 boxes of paper, notebooks, pens, markers and more as part of Governor Stein’s Annual School Supply Drive. It is the least we can do to support our public schools as we continue to look for ways to invest more in our public schools and reduce the burden on our teachers who often personally cover those out-of-pocket costs,” Esparza added.
PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson shared words of gratitude for the donation.
“On behalf of the Public Schools of Robeson County, we sincerely thank Governor Josh Stein, Secretary Gabriel Esparza and the North Carolina Department of Administration for supporting Piney Grove Elementary School through the Annual School Supply Drive,” Dr. Williamson said.
“These supplies will directly support our students and teachers, and we are grateful for the generosity and partnership that help ensure our classrooms have the resources students need to learn and thrive,” Dr. Williamson said.
About the Governor’s School Supply Drive
This is the eighth year that the Office of the Governor has held this event to encourage North Carolinians to donate school supplies to local classrooms. From June 29 to July 31, donation boxes were placed at the State Employees’ Credit Union’s 275 branch locations. The Office of the Governor and cabinet agencies also collected donations. In partnership with SECU, the North Carolina Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA), the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Carolina, and Communities in Schools of North Carolina, the Governor’s Office is distributing supplies to students in need across the state. In total, the drive collected more than 110,000 unique school supplies.
