Students and opportunity remain at the heart of Harrison’s vision for PSRC
LUMBERTON — “At the heart of our work must always be our children. I want every student to be excited about coming to school—to know there is something waiting for them each day that sparks their curiosity, challenges them and helps them discover what they can become. Education should cultivate a lifelong love of learning that stays with students long after they leave our classrooms.”
Those are the words of PSRC Interim Superintendent Dr. William “Bill” Harrison.
Harrison was appointed to the role by the PSRC Board of Education during a special called meeting on June 16, 2026, with his appointment effective September 1, 2026. Harrison’s appointment was made following the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson.
Dr. Harrison will serve as Interim Superintendent while the Board conducts its search for the district’s next superintendent. He brings more than four decades of experience in public education, including leadership at the school, district and state levels. Most recently, he served as Interim Superintendent of Alamance-Burlington School System in 2024 and currently chairs the Board of the Public School Forum of North Carolina.
“As I serve during this period of transition, my commitment is to help maintain the district’s momentum, support the people doing this important work every day and keep students at the center of our decisions. There is much to celebrate in the Public Schools of Robeson County, and there is even more opportunity ahead,” Harrison said.
Dr. Harrison believes the district is well-positioned for continued growth and success. His focus is on using the district’s positive momentum to strengthen student outcomes, support educators and reinforce learning environments where students are challenged, inspired and prepared for what comes next.
“I come to PSRC at an exciting time,” he said. “The district’s improved academic performance and key data metrics reflect the hard work taking place in classrooms and schools across this community. That progress has positioned PSRC to continue a strong upward trajectory, and I believe we have an important opportunity to build upon that momentum while continuing to raise expectations and expand opportunities for students.”
The superintendent also sees tremendous potential in leveraging the Public Schools of Robeson County Career and Technical Education Center (Robeson CTEC) and other district resources to expand opportunities for students while contributing to the long-term success of Robeson County. By connecting learning with career pathways, workforce needs and real-world opportunities, he wants students to recognize the possibilities available to them and understand the role they can play in helping their community thrive.
Ultimately, Dr. Harrison’s vision extends beyond academic measures alone. His goal is for PSRC to be a place where students discover what excites them, develop confidence in their abilities and leave school with the curiosity, skills and lifelong love of learning needed to pursue meaningful futures.
“It is an honor to serve as Interim Superintendent of the Public Schools of Robeson County. Throughout more than four decades in public education, I have seen firsthand what is possible when schools, families and communities work together with a shared belief in the potential of every child. I am grateful for the opportunity to join that work here in Robeson County,” Dr. Harrison said.
“Together, we can ensure our students are prepared not only for their next step, but for a lifetime of learning, growth and contribution,” he added.
