We are incredibly grateful to share that Union Chapel Elementary has received a donated collection of books from the Book from the Nook program at the Museum of the Southeast American Indian.

Thanks to a grant made possible by the North Carolina (Robeson County) Community Foundation, our school was selected to receive a thoughtfully curated collection of 12 books written by American Indian authors, many of whom have been featured through the Book from the Nook cultural literacy program.

These books celebrate Indigenous voices, cultures, and stories while encouraging a love of reading and supporting literacy and cultural awareness among our students. We are honored to add these meaningful titles to our school community and thank our partners for investing in our readers.

The Public Schools of Robeson County is monitoring weather conditions closely. If any changes to normal operations are necessary, we will provide an update by noon on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Stay tuned to official district social media channels and our website at robeson.k12.nc.us.

The ​Public ​Schools of ​Robeson ​County will operate on a regular schedule on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, Union Chapel Elementary will operate on a two-hour delay.

🎶✨ Learning Through Music & Art in 1st Grade! ✨🎨

Ms. Taylor Locklear and Mrs. Helen’s 1st grade class has been diving into the world of music this week while learning about the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, best known for his musical masterpiece The Nutcracker.

To bring this learning to life, students explored the 2018 film The Nutcracker and the Four Realms and chose their favorite realm to illustrate. Through creativity and imagination, students connected music, storytelling, and art in a meaningful way.

Learning about composers while using movies that spark students’ interests helps make learning engaging, creative, and fun! 🎼🖍️

This is a reminder that school will be closed on Monday, January 19th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

We will also have teacher workdays on Tuesday, January 20th, and Wednesday, January 21st, so there will be no school for students on these days.

Ms. Wanda’s 4th grade science class completed a fun, hands-on activity learning about the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies. Students explored each phase from new moon to full moon while building their models and deepening their understanding in a creative (and tasty!) way.

Learning is always better when it’s interactive and a little sweet! ✨

Today we had the honor of inducting our newest members into the Beta Club at Union Chapel Elementary. We are incredibly proud of these students for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence. The Beta Club represents leadership, service, academic achievement, and strong character. We are incredibly proud to share some exciting news! Our very own teacher, Ms. Rhyane Jacobs, has been selected as a finalist for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) 2026 Burroughs Wellcome Fund NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award!

As a finalist, Ms. Jacobs has been invited to participate in NCCAT’s Beginning Teacher of the Year Program, scheduled for March 9–13, 2026, at the Truist Leadership Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Today, Dr. Freddie Williamson, Dr. Windy Dorsey-Carr, and Ms. Amanda Graham stopped by to congratulate Ms. Jacobs on this outstanding accomplishment.
