The first nine weeks will end on Thursday, October 24th. To allow teachers time to wrap up all necessary end of the nine weeks tasks, there will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 25th due to a teacher workday. All students will return on Monday, October 28th.
This week is School Bus Safety Week. School Bus Safety Week is celebrated to raise awareness about the importance of school bus safety for students, parents, and drivers. It aims to educate the community about safe practices when boarding and exiting buses, the rules for crossing the street safely, and the need for drivers to be vigilant when near school buses.
The week serves as a reminder of the vital role that school buses play in transporting children safely to and from school, while also promoting responsible behavior among everyone involved. It’s a great opportunity to reinforce safety messages and ensure that children understand how to stay safe on and around buses.

Although this AWESOME group of ladies will be honored later in the year, we can't let National School Lunch Week come to an end without recognizing the ones who make it all possible. We appreciate our cafeteria staff for making sure our students have a healthy and nutritious lunch each day. This mid-day meal is just what kids need to finish the school day strong!

In their most recent language arts unit, our first grade students brought to life classroom tools and habits of character as they worked collaboratively to solve a classroom design challenge and answered the unit guiding question: "How do we create a magnificent thing?"
In small groups, students planned, created, and revised a "magnificent" thing that fulfills a classroom need.
The students shared their magnificent things and written pieces with their classmates and other classroom visitors during an end-of-module celebration.
We love to see this creative thinking and collaboration going on inside our classrooms! Awesome job, first grade students and teachers!
THANK YOU to everyone who came out and supported McDonald's Night last night. It was a huge success and all money raised will benefit our PBIS program. We appreciate all of our stakeholders who take a vested interest in the students at Union Chapel Elementary School. Thank you once again.

Today, our third grade classes attended the Robeson County Agricultural Awareness Day at the Southeastern NC Agricultural Events Center. This event is a partnership between the Public Schools of Robeson County, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the Robeson County Farm Bureau.
The event aims to teach students about the importance of agriculture in their daily lives. Students visited stations, each focusing on a different aspect of agriculture, including:
corn, small grains, cotton, soybean, poultry, beekeeping, horticulture, dairy, livestock, and nutrition.
We appreciate all those who organized this event. It was a valuable learning experience for our students.

We will celebrate Red Ribbon Week from Monday, October 21st through Thursday, October 24th. Flyers went home today announcing each day's dress-up theme. Encourage your child to participate to show that together we can combat substance abuse and promote healthy, drug-free living.
Today is Unity Day. On the third Wednesday of October, we wear and share the color orange because it is a color associated with safety and visibility.
For years, bullying was justified with expressions such as, “Bullying is a natural part of childhood,” “Bullying makes kids tougher,” or “Bullying is a rite of passage.” The goal of Unity Day is to bring together youth, parents, educators, businesses, and community members across the nation to emphasize the message that bullying is not acceptable and that all students deserve to be safe in school, online, and in the community.
For too long, the response to bullying has been silence and those who were bullied felt that no one cared. The simple act of wearing orange shows that youth experiencing bullying are not alone. The goal of wearing and sharing orange is to empower those who are bullied, and everyone around them, to speak up and reach out with kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.

Each year on the second Monday of October, our nation honors Indigenous Peoples by commemorating the heritage of Native American people. It’s a day to recognize the strength and resilience of Indigenous communities and it's a time to celebrate the cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native people in the U.S. today.
We celebrated Indigenous Peoples' Day by wearing our favorite Native American t-shirts, ribbon skirts or shirts, or other school-appropriate American Indian attire. Check out these awesome TIGERS!

We had one last-minute photo submitted of our students getting to visit with the Burnt Swamp Philadelphus Rural Volunteer Fire Department. As always, we appreciate our community volunteers who provide these valuable, and possibly life-saving opportunities for our children.
The TIGERS cheerleading squad brought incredible energy to the UNC Pembroke Education Day football game on Saturday, October 12th. The event was a fantastic celebration of school spirit, camaraderie, and community engagement. Our cheerleaders not only enhanced the game atmosphere with their performances but also had the chance to showcase their talents and connect with fellow cheerleading teams. It was a memorable day filled with enthusiasm and pride!
We appreciate our cheerleading coach, Ms. Mariah Jeffries for allowing our girls to participate in this experience.
