We have had a wonderful Staff Appreciation Week at Union Chapel School. Yesterday we were treated to pizza and dessert for lunch provided by our County Commissioner, Mrs. Judy Sampson, and our school board representative, Mr. Terry Blake Locklear. I apologize for not getting pictures from earlier in the week, but we also want to thank McNeill's Catering and Food Truck for lunch on Monday, Fuller's BBQ for lunch on Tuesday, and Pembroke Waste Collection for breakfast on Thursday.
We are so blessed to have a community that values the hard work and efforts of those who work in our school. Your kindness is appreciated more than you will ever know.
We are tickled pink about our new mini library. This little cutie was gifted to us by The Robeson County Reading Council and is a book-sharing box where the entire Union Chapel community can get a FREE book to read. Community members can also add books to the box if they have books they have already read and would like to share with others. What a neat idea and a great addition to our community. We cannot thank these individuals enough for this wonderful gift.
This information is hot off the press! Let me introduce you to Axton Woods. Axton is a second grade student here at Union Chapel Elementary School. Here are some fun facts about Axton:
* He likes to play sports, ride his four-wheeler, and play video games. (All work and no play would make Axton a very sad boy.)
* His favorite animals are his hunting dogs. (What's your favorite thing to hunt, Axton?)
* His favorite color is red. (Just like the sweatshirt he's sporting in his pic.)
* His favorite food is pizza. (Pepperoni or cheese?)
* He wants to be a doctor when he grows up. (It takes a good person to want to care for others.)
Mrs. Mary Locklear and Mrs. Joan Scott, Axton's teachers, said, "Axton is a very hard worker in class. He shows lots of dedication to his work and has been a joy to teach. " What a great compliment!

Here's to our third and fourth grade teachers. Third grade teachers are very special to us because they work with students who haven't quite grasped if they are ready to leave all things associated with K-2 and become part of the 4-6 world. It's a tricky time for teachers and students alike. And fourth grade teachers are the lucky ones who get to experience the students when they realize they are too cool for ALL the things. Nevertheless, these teachers persevere and keep things rolling.
We cannot thank these teachers enough for the hard work they put into ensuring the success of their students. Take a bow, teachers!
Do you know what you are looking at here? This is a group of PUBLISHED authors and illustrators and they are only in Pre - K. Yep, you read that right! Our Pre - K students, with the help of their teacher, Mrs. Kery Locklear, and their teacher assistant, Mrs. Kasurry Russell, wrote and illustrated their very own book entitled, "The Snapping Crocodile." I don't want to give away the plot, but you are going to want to get your hands on this good read. 10 out of 10...highly recommend!

Listen up...there's exciting news ahead! Let me introduce you to Scarlet Hunt. Scarlet is a third grade student here at Union Chapel Elementary School. Here are some fun facts about Scarlet:

* She wants to be a vet when she grows up. (Cause axolotls need care too.)
Mrs. Kimberly Clancy, Scarlet's teacher, says, "Scarlet has been reading chapter books this year. She is a very active student meaning she has great participation during class. Scarlet is a good friend and enjoys helping her classmates. Scarlet is ready for fourth grade." What a great compliment!

Our first graders LOVE our principal, Mr. Antonio Wilkins! They surprised him on the front lawn with a poster and shouts of acclamation and appreciation. Just look at the smiles on these faces. Thanks for all you do, Mr. Antonio!

Here's to our Pre-K and Kindergarten teams! What can I say about these unsung heroes? Cause it's Pre-K and Kindergarten and if you know, you know. We appreciate you ladies more than you will ever know.
As we prepare for another wonderful week at school, please note the following:
• It is Teacher Appreciation Week so show some love to the true heroes of our school. Our teachers go above and beyond to ensure our students’ success and we cannot thank them enough for all they do.
• It is also National Nurses Week. Show some love to our school nurse, Ms. Becky Jacobs for all she does to keep our students and staff in tip-top shape.
• Amplify End-of-Year testing starts on Wednesday for kindergarten - third grade students. Encourage your child to do their best.
• Our May Day Celebration is Friday, May 10th at 9:00 a.m. Join us if you are able.
This is a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow, May 3rd due to a teacher workday. We will see all students on Monday morning. Have a great weekend.
