I hope everyone has had a great Thanksgiving break. As we prepare for another wonderful week at school, please note the following events: * Classworks Middle-of-Year testing will be tomorrow through December 8th. These reading and math screeners are important in showing your child's growth in these areas, so please encourage them to do their best. * Fall picture retakes will be on Tuesday, November 28th for all students who were absent during the first picture date. If your child was present on that date, but you were displeased with their school pictures, they can retake their picture if they bring a note written and signed by their parent. We will not accommodate retakes for students that have not received written consent from their parents. * Vision screenings will be on Tuesday, November 28th for students in kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, and 6th grades. If you wish for your student to have their vision checked, please return the permission slip that was sent home by the school nurse. * Union Chapel's 12 Days of Christmas starts on Thursday, November 30th. Former Tiger, Chandler Brayboy, spoke with our 4th - 6th grade students as part of Native American Heritage Month. Chandler, who plays wide receiver on the football team at Elon University, emphasized the values of respect, belief, and purpose during his interaction with the children. He shared insights about his student life, encouraging them to be good students, listen to their teachers, and study hard. Chandler's experience at Elon University has involved challenges like studying hard, making new friends, and adjusting to being away from home. He also placed emphasis on having good mentors throughout his life who offered guidance and advice in his journey. The students' interest, shown by asking questions and seeking autographs, reflects the impact Chandler's words had on them. We appreciate our former students who stay connected to our school and community. Thank you, Chandler! Union Chapel Elementary School is proud of you.

In celebration of National Native American Heritage Month, we want to highlight our Youth Development Specialist, Mrs. Cathy Revels. She is vital to making sure our students are in school and makes home visits when needed. Mrs. Cathy is a wonderful liaison between the community and the school, ensuring that we all know of important tribal events that are taking place.
