Parents, if your child is currently in first through fifth grade and you would like for them to have an opportunity to be on next year's Battle of the Books team, please contact their teacher or the school media coordinator, Mrs. Carrie Bullard. Mrs. Carrie is currently putting things together for next year's team so that the students will have everything they need before going home for the summer. Thank you.
FYI...School will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. on the last day of school. On Friday, June 7th, please make the necessary arrangements to accommodate this early release. Thank you!

We continue with Day 2 of Teacher Appreciation Week. Each day we will highlight a group of teachers and teacher assistants. We have an awesome group of instructional leaders and we want to celebrate them for all they do to make Union Chapel School a great place to learn!
Here's to our first and second grade teachers. These teachers are very special to us because these are the grades where the students are finally grasping reading and writing and learning to become independent workers. If you want to see major growth in a classroom, go visit the wonderful worlds of first and second grade.
We cannot thank these teachers enough for the hard work they put into ensuring the success of their students. Take a bow, teachers!

Listen up...there's exciting news ahead! Let me introduce you to Scarlet Hunt. Scarlet is a third grade student here at Union Chapel Elementary School. Here are some fun facts about Scarlet:
* She likes to play video games and draw. (Maybe Scarlet can draw graphics for video games one day.)
* Her favorite animal is an axolotl. (No, that is not a misspelling. Yes, it is a real animal. And, yes, I did have to Google it.)
* Her favorite color is light pink. (Like a ballerina's tutu.)
* Her favorite foods are strawberries and cucumbers. (Smart and healthy.)
* She wants to be a vet when she grows up. (Cause axolotls need care too.)
Mrs. Kimberly Clancy, Scarlet's teacher, says, "Scarlet has been reading chapter books this year. She is a very active student meaning she has great participation during class. Scarlet is a good friend and enjoys helping her classmates. Scarlet is ready for fourth grade." What a great compliment!
Scarlet is featured on our Facebook page because she purchased this certificate in our PBIS Store. If your child would like to receive a shout-out on our social media pages, they can buy this opportunity using their PBIS points. We love highlighting our wonderful students.

Our first graders LOVE our principal, Mr. Antonio Wilkins! They surprised him on the front lawn with a poster and shouts of acclamation and appreciation. Just look at the smiles on these faces. Thanks for all you do, Mr. Antonio!

Way to go, to fifth grader, Briana Walters, for being selected as a recipient of the Superintendent's Choice Art Award. We are proud of Briana for having her artwork chosen for this distinct honor. Congratulations, Briana!

Let's give a SHOUT OUT to these awesome Tigers for being Classworks All-Stars! In the first photo, we have third graders, Jace Bullard and Georgia Locklear, and in the second photo, we have sixth graders, James Morgan, Jose Varona Gonzalez, and Landon Campbell. Congratulations, students on a job well done in the Classworks program.

Today begins Teacher Appreciation Week. Each day we will highlight a group of teachers and teacher assistants. We have an awesome group of instructional leaders and we want to celebrate them for all they do to make Union Chapel School a great place to learn!
Here's to our Pre-K and Kindergarten teams! What can I say about these unsung heroes? Cause it's Pre-K and Kindergarten and if you know, you know. We appreciate you ladies more than you will ever know.

As we prepare for another wonderful week at school, please note the following:
• It is Teacher Appreciation Week so show some love to the true heroes of our school. Our teachers go above and beyond to ensure our students’ success and we cannot thank them enough for all they do.
• It is also National Nurses Week. Show some love to our school nurse, Ms. Becky Jacobs for all she does to keep our students and staff in tip-top shape.
• Amplify End-of-Year testing starts on Wednesday for kindergarten - third grade students. Encourage your child to do their best.
• Our May Day Celebration is Friday, May 10th at 9:00 a.m. Join us if you are able.

This is a reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow, May 3rd due to a teacher workday. We will see all students on Monday morning. Have a great weekend.

It is School Principals' Day. Show some love to our principal, Mr. Antonio Wilkins, for all he does for Union Chapel School. You are appreciated, Mr. Antonio.

Since we will not be in school on Friday due to a teacher workday, help us celebrate this awesome group of ladies tomorrow.
Friday is School Lunch Hero Day. Between preparing delicious food, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, these nutrition professionals have a lot on their plate. To celebrate their hard work and commitment, we want to thank these hardworking heroes for their dedication to fueling our students for success. You ladies rock! Our school is lucky to have you.

Please share this information with any rising seventh grader who is interested in trying out for Pembroke Middle School's cheer team.

It takes a village to make a school an outstanding beacon in the community. We just can't thank our friendly neighbors like Mr. Glonnie Scott enough for all they do to make Union Chapel School look its best. Mr. Glonnie came out and smoothed our car pick-up gravel road. It looks so good and I know all who drive on it will be thankful.
THANK YOU again, Mr. Glonnie, for volunteering your time and resources to get this part of our campus in tip-top shape! We appreciate you!
Enjoy more photos from this year's prom.

Our sixth grade students had a wonderful time at prom Friday night. They danced, and ate, and danced some more. Wonderful memories were made and we appreciate our staff members who helped make this a night to remember.

Tutoring is canceled for tomorrow, April 30th due to Title 1 Transition Night at 5:30. If your child normally stays for tutoring on Tuesdays, please make alternate arrangements for them. We hope to see all of our families tomorrow night. Thank you.

Title 1 Parent Night is Tuesday, April 30th from 5:30 - 6:30. This will be a transition night where parents can meet with next year's teachers to discuss the academic expectations for the next grade level, get a school supply list for next year, receive a packet of important information for next year, and learn things you can do this summer to help your child acclimate to a new school year. We hope to see all of our families represented on Tuesday night.

Bus 48, Mrs. Anessa Clark's bus, will be a second load bus in the morning all week. It will be a second load bus in the afternoon on Wednesday only. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please bear with us.
