It is Read Across America Week. This nationwide celebration promotes literacy, encourages a love of reading, and honors the importance of books in our lives. We encourage you to join the festivities we have planned this week and ignite your passion for reading. Tomorrow is "Books are Fantastic Friday" and we are dressing like our favorite book character. Remember that the Book Character Parade is tomorrow afternoon and we cannot wait to see your awesome costumes!
Pat Mora’s book, "Tomas and the Library Lady" is the true story of Tomás Rivera, who grew up in a migrant worker family, befriended a librarian in Iowa, and learned to love books and the places they took him. That’s why books are so great. They will take you places you have never been before and introduce you to some amazing characters without leaving the comfort of your seat.

Tomorrow is "Do Your Thing Thursday" and we will dress like our future career. In Abby Huntsman’s book, "Who Will I Be?" Isabel's teacher asks her students who they want to be when they grow up, but Isabel doesn't have an answer. Isabel knows it makes her happy to help her friends, neighbors, and family--but can a person really grow up to be a helper? It's time for Isabel to open her eyes and her heart and see all the different jobs people do.

It's Read Across America Week and readers are roaming all over our campus. We cannot get enough of it!
Mrs. Kristen Elk-Maynor visited and read to the Pre-K students in Mrs. Kery Locklear and Mrs. Kasurry Russell's class, and Dr. Josh Locklear read to the first grade students in Ms. Cassidy Owens and Mrs. Tina Locklear's class.
We appreciate all of our community stakeholders who take a vested interest in our students while promoting literacy, encouraging a love of reading, and honoring the importance of books in our students' lives.
