Ms. Kim McNeill’s fifth-grade students are having a blast with hands-on learning as they experiment with friction! Today, they’re discovering which surfaces create the most and least friction. It's amazing to see them applying their curiosity and critical thinking skills as they test different materials and surfaces to see how they impact movement. Science in action is always exciting, and we’re proud of how engaged and thoughtful our students are as they explore the world around them. Keep up the great work, fifth grade!

This past Saturday, Mrs. Tammy Sessoms and some of her amazing sixth-grade students—Julie O., Paisley H., Lumbeeona O., and Jacob L.—joined together to make a difference in our community by participating in the Adopt-a-Highway road clean-up along a stretch of highway in the Union Chapel community. This clean-up is in memory of one of our former students, Dustin Ryan Revels. We are so proud of these students for giving their time and energy to help keep our community beautiful. This project wasn’t just about picking up trash and debris, it was also about instilling values of compassion, responsibility, and good citizenship. At Union Chapel Elementary School, we are committed to not only helping our students succeed academically, but also encouraging them to grow into caring, engaged members of their community. Way to go, Julie, Paisley, Lumbeeona, and Jacob!

Today, our students and staff came together by wearing pink to show our love, support, and prayers for Keirra Cummings, the sister of our teacher assistant Kyndra Cummings Chavis. Keirra was involved in a car accident this week, and we are sending her strength and healing thoughts. Let’s continue to keep Keirra and her family in our hearts and prayers as they navigate this challenging time.

🧪Science Experiment Fun with Mr. McRae's ECSC Students! 🧪 Our ECSC students had an exciting hands-on science experiment today, exploring the fascinating world of gas! Using balloons and water bottles, they got to witness science in action and learn how gases behave in different environments. A huge thank you to Mr. McRae and the class' teacher assistants for guiding the students through this experiment and making science come to life in such a fun and interactive way!

📚 Battle of the Books Update! 📚 While our Battle of the Books team didn't place in this year's competition, we couldn't be more proud of the hard work and dedication these students put in! They represented Union Chapel Elementary School with incredible enthusiasm, teamwork, and a love for reading. 🏆💪 A huge shout-out to our amazing participants who are pictured from left to right: Liliana R. Joshua L. Kalina J. Riley P. Daelon M. Team, you all did an amazing job, and we couldn't be prouder of how you showcased your knowledge and spirit. Wear Pink for Keirra! Tomorrow, we ask our school community to wear pink in support of Keirra Cummings, sister of our beloved teacher assistant, Kyndra Cummings. Keirra was recently injured in a car accident, and we want to show our love, support, and prayers for her healing. Kiwanis Accessible Playground Is Open And Available for Use! As the weather warms up, don't forget about the incredible new inclusive playground at the Raymond B. Pennington Athletic Complex (500 Hornets Road in Lumberton)! This space is designed to be accessible for children of all abilities, providing a fantastic opportunity for outdoor play for all our students. We encourage our students and their families to take advantage of this wonderful resource and enjoy some fresh air while being active.

A big THANK YOU to County Commissioner Judy Sampson for her generous gesture! She treated our kindergarten students to a delicious pizza treat today, and they absolutely loved it! 🌟 Ms. Mariah’s 3rd Grade Class in Action! 🌟 Today, our talented 3rd graders got hands-on with learning as they created interactive number lines! They practiced identifying equivalent fractions and comparing fractions by using these number lines to visualize their understanding. It’s amazing to see their hard work and teamwork as they build their math skills in such a fun and engaging way!

After gathering their findings, the students honed their writing and oral presentation skills by creating detailed reports and visually engaging posters. They proudly presented their work to their classmates and a partner class nearby, thoughtfully addressing two essential questions: 1. What role does pollination play in providing us with fruits, flowers, and vegetables? and 2. How can we think like researchers and effectively share our discoveries with others? This hands-on learning experience not only deepened their understanding of pollination but also strengthened their ability to communicate scientific ideas.

✨ Exciting News! ✨ Author Stacy McAnulty visited our 2nd and 3rd grade students yesterday, and what an inspiring time it was! Our students were thrilled to hear from Stacy herself as she shared her writing journey and introduced her latest book, "Are We There Yet?" A huge thank you to The Country Bookshop in Southern Pines for their generous sponsorships, which provided signed copies of Stacy’s new book for ALL of our 2nd and 3rd grade students and teachers! We are so grateful for this amazing opportunity to encourage our students' love of reading!

Meet our little leprechauns! Pre-K students Saliah and Ian are ready to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in style! They’ve got their lucky leprechaun hats on and are spreading joy and green magic all around! The green magic must have landed in Ms. Bobbie's class because her third graders are decked out in green today wishing for some good luck to come their way. They shared their research with classmates, first-grade classes, and staff, reflecting on these key questions: How do we get the fruits, flowers, and vegetables we enjoy?
