LUMBERTON, N.C. — The Public Schools of Robeson County (PSRC) is proud to announce that three assistant principals have been selected to participate in the Sandhills Regional Education Consortium’s Executive Leadership Development for Aspiring Principals. This five-session professional development series is designed to prepare rising school leaders for the principalship.
Representing PSRC are Kenda Collins, Assistant Principal at Deep Branch Elementary; Shenika Moore, Assistant Principal at Prospect Elementary; and Kelsey Cummings, Assistant Principal at Union Elementary.
The series, hosted at Sandhills Community College, equips assistant principals with a systems-level view of school leadership and the mindset shift needed to transition from assistant principal to principal. Each session, approximately four hours in length, focuses on essential skills such as data-driven decision-making, team leadership, strategic communication, and high-level school operations.
Key focus areas include strategic school improvement, budget and resource alignment, building strong teams, and fostering a positive school culture. Participants will also explore role transition, political acumen, time management, and crisis leadership. A unique component of the program is a mock interview lab, where participants rotate through both interviewer and interviewee roles to sharpen their leadership vision and communication skills.
The workshop session schedule includes October 1, 2025; October 22, 2025; January 14, 2026; February 25, 2026; and March 25, 2026. All sessions will be held at Sandhills Community College.
The series will be led by Dr. Deanne Meadows, Deputy Director of Regional Support for myFutureNC and former Superintendent of Columbus County Schools. With 34 years of experience in education, Dr. Meadows has dedicated her career to supporting teachers and ensuring equitable educational opportunities for all students.
“We commend these strong administrators for their dedication to professional growth and their commitment to serving students and staff. Their participation in this program strengthens the district’s pipeline of highly prepared, equity-focused school leaders,” said PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson.
