LUMBERTON High school students from the Public Schools of Robeson County’s Career and Technical Education Program recently participated in an enriching job shadowing experience at UNC Health Southeastern, exploring real-world applications of their studies in Health Science and Culinary Arts.

Each semester, UNC Health Southeastern graciously opens its doors to PSRC students, offering them firsthand exposure to diverse career paths within the healthcare and hospitality fields.

This semester’s visits on Tuesday, October 14, and Wednesday, October 15, were no exception, providing an engaging opportunity for students to observe professionals in action and learn about the education and skills required to pursue similar careers. A total of 41 students participated in the job shadowing experience.

During visits, students heard from Montressa Smith, UNC Health Southeastern Director of Engagement and Culture, Lara Johnson, UNC Health Southeastern Recruitment and Retention Specialist, and Patrick Ebri, PhD, UNC Health Southeastern Vice President and Chief Engagement Officer, who shared valuable insights about career opportunities, summer enrichment programs and available scholarship options. Their advice and encouragement left a lasting impression on participating students.

All participants were invited to enjoy lunch, adding a thoughtful and memorable touch to an already inspiring experience.

“We hope that the experience engaged the students in such a way that they decide to pursue a career in healthcare,” said UNC Health Southeastern President and CEO Chris Ellington.

PSRC Superintendent Freddie Williamson, EdD, expressed gratitude to UNC Health Southeastern for the opportunity afforded to students that allowed them to explore potential careers.

“The Public Schools of Robeson County extends sincere appreciation to UNC Health Southeastern for its continued partnership and support in preparing students for future success through hands-on learning experience,” Dr. Williamson said.
