The Public Schools of Robeson County is proud to announce that Joseph Shaw, a dedicated math educator from Littlefield Middle School, has been named the district’s recipient for the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) 2025 Outstanding Secondary Mathematics Teacher Award.
This recognition is part of NCCTM’s statewide celebration, “Cultivating Joy Through Collaboration: Building a Community of Mathematicians,” honoring educators who inspire curiosity, confidence, and a true love for mathematics among students in grades 6–12.
Principals from each secondary school were invited to nominate a math teacher who exemplifies excellence in classroom instruction, innovation, student engagement, and professional collaboration. These nominations were then thoughtfully reviewed by a panel of peer educators, who selected the teacher they felt best represents the vision and values of the Public Schools of Robeson County.
“Mr. Shaw is a shining example of what it means to cultivate joy in learning,” said PSRC Superintendent Dr. Freddie Williamson. “His passion for mathematics and his commitment to his students create a classroom environment where every learner feels capable, valued, and encouraged to grow.”
NCCTM’s 2025 Awards Ceremony held Thursday spotlighted educators who go above and beyond—not only teaching math, but building a vibrant community of mathematicians. Mr. Shaw’s dedication to innovative instruction, collaborative practice, and student success makes him an exceptional representative of PSRC at the state level.
“The Public Schools of Robeson County congratulates Joseph Shaw on this well-deserved honor and thanks him for his continued commitment to excellence in education,” said PSRC Chief Communications Officer Jessica Sealey.
