ML Families

LUMBERTON — The Public Schools of Robeson County (PSRC) Multilingual Learner (ML) Program has been officially recognized as an event host for the 2026 North Carolina Science Festival (NCSciFest), marking a significant milestone for the district and its commitment to inclusive, high-quality science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education.

PSRC’s 4th Annual STEAM Day for Multilingual Learner Families has been selected for inclusion on the official 2026 NCSciFest statewide calendar, positioning the district as a partner in one of North Carolina’s premier science education initiatives, produced by UNC’s Morehead Planetarium & Science Center.

As an official event host, PSRC will participate in a virtual introductory session on February 11 ahead of the in-person NCSciFest event on April 18, 2026, at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP), bringing together families, students, and educators for a celebration of multilingual learning and STEAM engagement.

“Being selected as an official event host is an exciting recognition of the work our educators and families are doing to make science accessible, engaging, and inclusive for all learners,” said Sandra Lopez Greenfield, PSRC Multilingual Learner Lead. “This opportunity allows us to showcase our district’s commitment to innovation and family engagement at a statewide level.”

PSRC extends special thanks to Science Supervisor Susan Hendrix for her leadership, dedication, and inspiration in helping make this achievement possible. The district also extends gratitude to UNC-Pembroke for a strong educational partnership and shared goal to provide educational opportunities that will ensure all students thrive.

“UNC Pembroke's School of Education is proud to partner with the Public Schools of Robeson County in celebrating the recognition of the Multilingual Learner Program as the host for their 2026 North Carolina Science Festival,” said Dr. Keri Sullivan, assistant professor in the School of Education and program coordinator of Undergraduate Special Education in the Department of Specialized Educational Programs at UNC-Pembroke.

“This designation highlights PSRC’s strong commitment to inclusive, high-quality STEAM education and to creating meaningful learning opportunities for multilingual students and their families. We commend the leadership of the Multilingual Learner team and their innovative efforts to engage families through events like the Annual STEAM Day. As a university dedicated to preparing educators and strengthening schools across our region, we value this collaboration and look forward to continuing our work alongside PSRC to expand access, inspire curiosity, and ensure all students have the opportunity to thrive in science and beyond,” Dr. Sullivan said.
